County Council Elections: Maidstone Green Party decides candidates

The Maidstone Green Party has selected its candidates for the county elections on the 5th May and it will be represented in all but one division. The candidates are: Penny Kemp - Maidstone Rural East; Ian McDonald - Maidstone Central; Steve Muggeridge - Maidstone South; Andrew Waldie - Maidstone Rural West; Jim Shalice - Maidstone North East; Jenny Reid - Maidstone South East; Stuart Jeffery - Maidstone Rural North.

Penny Kemp, former Chair of the Green Party said, "More and more people are understanding that Green politics is the only way forward if we are to combat the major environmental issues we face. Voters are fed up with the green rhetoric coming from the other political parties. We need green action and we need it now." Penny can be contacted 01622 890601.

Ian McDonald has lived in Maidstone since 1991 and works in customer services. Ian, 59, has been a stalwart campaigner on environmental and transport issues. He can be contacted on 01622 203751.

Steve Muggeridge is 43 and a longstanding Maidstone resident. He is a director of the Big Green Gathering and has been one of the organisers of the Maidstone Green Fair. Steve can be contacted on 01622 673413.

Andrew Waldie is a management consultant and works within the public sector. Andrew is married and has two daughters and has lived in Kent for 20 years. Andrew said "A Green vote is a vote for real progress and real progress is more necessary now than ever before". Andrew can be contacted on 01622 833291.

Jim Shalice works as a support worker in Maidstone. He has been a tireless campaigner in the Green Party for the last 15 years. Jim lives with his partner Jenny Reid. Jenny works as a senior nurse at Maidstone Hospital. They can be contacted on 01622 661838.

Stuart Jeffery, coordinator for the Maidstone Green Party, said "Greens are gaining in influence with every election. Not only do we have elected representatives in Europe, Scotland, London and many Councils, we have a member of the House of Lords. Our sister parties in Europe have members of National Governments including a Green Foreign Minister in Germany. Maidstone Green Party will be putting its effort into attaining a win in the county elections where Green politics will really improve the lives of the people in Kent".
