GREENS PLACE OBJECTION TO VICTORIA ROAD DEVELOPMENT

3rd March 2005

Ashford Green Party is objecting to proposals for a hotel and new road in the Victoria Road and Victoria Crescent area of Ashford(1). Consultation did not include informing residents that their homes were under threat. The planning application needs re-writing to meet the full range of local concerns. Steve Dawe comments:

"The insensitive way this proposal and its related road are moving forward has included putting a blight upon properties in the Victoria Crescent-South Stour Avenue-Eastmead areas. The market value of properties will inevitably plummet as a result. Property owners selling their properties are entitled to the price prevailing PRIOR to the Council's scandalously incompetent addition of its road proposals to this planning application. Ashford Green Party objects to any through road in this area.

"Our submission on this planning application makes a variety of proposals to reduce the traffic, water and energy impacts of this proposed development, major concerns to local residents. Examples include making some of the dwellings proposed car-free with residents committed to not have a vehicle on the site and no parking space for one; gray water and water butts must be used to cut water consumption; the Council must insist on all possible energy conservation and renewable technology measures to keep electricity demand from the development as low as possible. "Ashford Green Party objects to the Hotel element of the planning application in principle: we cannot see any current or future need for another Hotel."
