'DON'T VOTE FOR RACIST PARTIES' - Green Party condemns racist UK Independence and British National Parties27th May 2004Hazel Dawe, Green Party European Candidate for Kent (1), is urging people not to support racist parties in the European and local elections. Racist violence is on the rise, and voting for racists does encourage more racially-motivated crimes. She comments: "I was deeply shocked by new media revelations of the extent of racism amongst members of the UK Independence Party who have claimed not to be racist in public meetings during the European Election campaign. Revelations by the Independent newspaper show that a large number of key UKIP figures have made racist statements or are associated with racist organisations(2). Their most prominent member, Robert Kilroy-Silk, is distinguished by his attacks upon the Irish, Pakistanis, Iraqis, Asians and Arabs! He remains their lead candidate in the East Midlands. "I am also disturbed by findings made by Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace that the UKIP is an anti-environmental party. Studies of UKIP voting in the European Parliament show them to have the worst voting records voting against good environmental proposals and supporting the worst anti-environmental suggestions. Their leader, Nigel Farage, also a South East MEP, speaking in Slough on the 1st May 2004 claimed he was 'proud to be labelled Britain's worst MEP by Greenpeace' because he rejects all regulations protecting the environment. This is lunacy. Voting Green and re-electing Caroline Lucas is essential to getting the racist UKIP out of the European Parliament. If people want to vote against the single currency and for renegotiation of the proposed constitution, but without going down the UKIP road, they can vote Green."
