GREENS PICK COUNTY BY ELECTION CANDIDATE25th March 2004Steve Dawe has been chosen to fight the Ashford South East County by-election for the Green Party. Steve fought the Wye seat in 2003's local elections, obtaining over 32% of the vote and coming second. Steve works as a Communications and Media Consultant and as a part-time lecturer in Higher Education. He spent 6 months in 2003 working at the extremely successful No Campaign, against the Euro. He participates in the South East regional team working with Dr Caroline Lucas, the Green Party Member of the European Parliament for our Region. Steve is Green Party Press Officer for East Kent and the author of numerous media releases and documents about Ashford's expansion. Steve's wife Hazel will be backing him up as Election Agent. Steve Dawe comments: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to stand in Ashford South East. My local shops, in the eastern part of this County division, are being squeezed by retail expansion on the fringes of Ashford. I want to see more effort from the County Council, in its strategic planning, to maintain employment throughout urban County divisions so that people can access shops and services they need in their own neighbourhood. The Green Party also supports more of the taxes we pay locally being used locally. "I would like to extend an invitation to residents of Willesborough, north and south, New Town, Aylesford Green and the Beaver Road area to ring me with any queries they may have concerning my campaign to become their County Councillor. I can be contacted on 01233 645167 or by email at stevedawe@gn.apc.org Relevant information may also be found on our website: www.eastkent-greenparty.org.uk ENDS c280 words FURTHER INFORMATION: Steve Dawe on 01233 645167/07904 382203 Contact address: 10 Hillbrow Road, Ashford, Kent TN23 4QH.
