2010 General and Borough elections
The Green Party made a historic breakthrough in May 2010, with Brighton electing our first ever Green MP, Caroline Lucas. Keith Taylor will take over as Kent's Green MEP.
Kent Greens stood 11 candidates across the county. The national squeeze hit us in Kent and we failed to save any deposits here.
2009 European and County elections
People across Kent voted in European and County elections in 2009 and helped re-elect Caroline Lucas as our MEP. The Green Party vote rose dramatically throughout Kent and Canterbury took first place with 16% of voters choosing Green. The Green Party vote increased by over 43% nationally, and some districts in Kent saw massive increases in Green votes. The Green Party beat Labour in 8 out of the 13 localities and beat the Liberal Democrats in 6 localities. Full Kent Green results:
In the County elections we stood 35 candidates and our best result was in Whitstable with 22.5% of the vote. Green Party results for the County elections:
